It has been brought to *Rev. Genny Rollins attention that the word” Kairos” is used and not explained.
Kairos is an international Prison Ministry, (Link above: Kairos Prison Ministries Canada) It is a program created to minister to people incarcerated, completely laid out with the talks that are to be presented building on each other as the program unfolds. It comes from the Cursillo movement, as a program to bring Jesus' love into the prison system.
Kairos means, ”God’s Special Time”, a program that brings together people who are incarcerated with Christian people from the different churches and faith groups in the community. The program is based on prepared talks which allow the person giving the talk to share a personal part of their life with the incarcerated person. When the talks are all put together it describes a new and different life that is available, if the person desires such a life and will turn to Christ and live for him. It does not deny that their will be problems but teaches that with God’s help, through people and a person’s own effort, a change can happen.
The program is presented in the Sudbury Jail for males and females and it happens in this way... Ten women, if the program is for the females, or ten men, if the program is for the males, have the program run at different times in their facility. These men and women from the Christian Community meet together to prepare talks. The team must meet at least eight times to form a love for the people they are going to encounter inside the Institution and are cleared to go into the institution to meet with the Participants, who chose to come to the program. Inside the prison walls ten participants meet for three days with ten Christian people.
* I, myself, use the number ten because that is the size of the space we have to meet with a group. In this setting they share their life journey with each other and reach out to bring God’s understanding and forgiveness into their life. As they receive this guidance, in a safe place, to face their pain from life and find healing in a loving environment. They come to experience a taste of peace in their hearts. We practise Listen and Love; to ask the Lord for a new spiritual focus as our theme. There are tears and joy, fun and music, good food and no pressure for anyone to change.
Just a program which points the way for a more blessed life, if this is what the participants desire.
